Venezuela Got its Second Gold in Taekwondo

Virginia Dellan won the category up to 49 kilos and was crowned champion in Santiago 2014. The silver medal went to the Peruvian Lizbeth Diez.

After four tight wins, Venezuelan Virginia Dellan hung the gold medal of the category up to 49 kilos in the X Games South American Santiago 2014.

Dellan’s most exciting duel came in the semi-finals. He faced Brazilian Iris Tang on the tatami of the Olympic Training Center. After the first two rounds, the Venezuelan was 2-5 down, but came back in the last twenty seconds of the third round. The score ended with a tight 10-8.

In the final, Dellan also started losing the first round, this time by 1-3. In the second round he scored a point, while in the last two minutes managed to take advantage to shoot with a final score of 5-4.

“I was able to recover even though the fatigue was killing me.I’m usually always up on the scoreboard and I know how to keep it, but all the tournaments are different.I’m happy with the gold and I dedicate it to my mother,”

said Dellan, Taekwondo Open champion In Austria last year.

Meanwhile, the Peruvian Lizbeth Diez was left with the silver. The bronze medals were for the Ecuadorian Michelle Peralta and for the Brazilian Iris Tang.

“I struggled with an injury to my left foot, and it was complicated. I’m very happy with the medal,”

Peralta said.

Tomorrow will end the action of taekwondo in Santiago 2014 with the definition of categories of less than 57 kilos female and less than 58 kilos male.
